June 16, Zhemgang: A one day quiz competition on Climate Change (CC) was held at the Rural Training Development Centre to create awareness on CC, the impacts of which is now regarded as one of the major environmental concerns globally. Farmers from geogs like Trong, Nangkhor, Goshing, Ngangla, Shingkhar and Bardo attended the program.
Prior to the quiz competition, farmers were highlighted on some of the basic issues that could be risky as CC impacts. They were encouraged to maintain a sustainable use of forest and water resources for healthy environment. A brief on the RNR-Climate Change Adaptation Program (CCAP), an EU funded four year project to enhance resilience of Bhutan’s rural households to the effects of climate change and quiz format were also shared.
A quiz questionnaires were relating to soil, forest, water and agriculture among others. Competing a five rounds, Nangkhor geog turned out to be the winner followed by Goshing and Ngangla geogs. The winners were awarded with cash prizes and others with participation prizes by the Chief Guest, Dasho Dzongrab, Namgay Rinchen. The Project Director from the Rural Livestock Project (RLP) and the Dzongkhag Agriculture Officer were also present as observers among others.
Information and Communication Services (ICS) jointly with RLP and Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector organised the quiz as an awareness program under CCAP which is to be held annually at four project sites of Pemagatshel, Lhuentse, Mongar and Zhemgang. The last of such program will be held in Lhuentse next year.
