Youth of Lhuentse take up Poultry Farming

The opening ceremony of the poultry farm was graced by Dasho Dzongdag and Dasho Dzongrab along with other relevant officials

November 3, Lhuentse: A poultry farm with five hundred capacity birds were handed over to the youths of Jarey. The activity as a part of the poultry and commercial organic farming is one the five projects of His Majesty’s People’s Project (URS Pilot Projects) that was launched by His Royal Gyaltshab in March 2017.

The project is aimed to create job opportunities for youths including the school leavers to encourage them get back home and start agricultural activities. Today, at an initial stage, the project benefits seven youths of Jarey. Fifteen more youths are expected to be joined in the near future.

The Dzongkhag Livestock Sector has invested a total of Nu. 0.8 million for farm construction including input supply of 500 nos. of pullets, feed for 3 months, electrification, feeder installation and automatic bell drinkers. The project site located at Thonglingbi in Jarey has 10 acres of land. Currently, land development activities are underway to start cultivation of various vegetables and cereal crops production by youths.

In Lhuentse a total of five URS projects are underway in five geogs of Kurtoed, Jarey, Maedtsho, Maenbi and Minjey. The sector will soon start the project titled, ‘Dairy and Commercial Organic Farming’ for Kurtoed.
