April 21 , Thimphu: With support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Ministry organised a high-level dissemination workshop on the ‘Results of the Methodological Studies for Agricultural and Rural Statistics’ at Hotel Migmar, Olakha.
Twenty-five participants representing the National Statistics Bureau (NSB), FAO-Country Office, Ministries of Economic Affairs, Labour and Human Resources, and Health; and Departments and Agencies under the Ministry attended the workshop. Dasho Kuenga Tshering, the Director General of NSB graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
As part of the implementation of the Global Strategy for Improving Agricultural and Rural Statistics, the Ministry and NSB with ADB’s support conducted the two methodological studies, ‘Analysis of available data sources for agricultural statistics’, and ‘Comparative analysis of urban and rural households using Bhutan Living Standard (BLSS) surveys 2003, 2007 and 2012’ to jumpstart the activities for improving agricultural and rural statistics in the country. The workshop helped the participants to understand the results of these two studies and solicited their insights for improvement.
Prior to presenting the above two papers, Dr. Isidoro P. David from ADB, the resource person led the participants through some preliminaries on complete enumeration, statistical survey sampling, controlling and assessing errors, data analysis and presentation for decision making.
The studies have found some discrepancies particularly in terms of ‘Analysis of available data sources for agricultural data’ between the Ministry and BLSS. The participants have acknowledged the discrepancies and pledged to make improvements henceforth.
