September 16, 2015, Bumthang: The National Centre for Animal Nutrition (NCAN) Bumthang organised a day long training on Willow (Salix babylonica) Silage making in Bumthang Dzongkhag. A total of 30 dairy farmers from Chungphel Chewog under Chumey Geog attended training. The hands on training provided them a basic skill on making willow silage in plastic bag and operation of fodder chaff cutter machine.

After the training, the dairy farmers were encouraged to make willow silage using their newly gained skill and were expected to address fodder shortage during the lean season. The concerned Chiwog will also get a fodder chaff cutter at a subsidised rate. Willow silage making in plastic bags is one of the practically viable fodder conservation technologies among many promoted by the NCAN in the country to sustain dairy farming.
