On-going: Virtual 35th session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific

The Royal Government of Bhutan will be hosting and Chairing the virtual conference of the 35th Food and Agriculture Organisation Regional Conference for Asia and Pacific from 1-4 September 2020 in Thimphu. Forty-six member nations along with the private sector and civil society organisations will participate in the event.

The arrival of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has had a great impact on agriculture and food systems in Asia and the Pacific, a region already beset by climate and weather-related challenges, such as droughts and flooding. In response, the experts will discuss a way forward during the conference in virtual mode. The conference will start with the Senior Officers Meeting on 1 September 2020 at 10 am (BST) followed by the Ministerial Sessions from 3-4 September 2020.

On 3 September 2020, inauguration of the Ministerial Level Meeting will start at 10:30 am (BST) where the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan will deliver a keynote speech followed by the opening speech by the Hon’ble Minister, MoAF.
