July 31, Tsirang: Tsirang Territorial Forest Division celebrated the World Ranger Day for the first time in her history with numerous activities. It was graced by the Chief Forestry Officer (CFO) as Chief Guest.
The day began with offering of the national anthem and Zhabten of His Majesty The King followed by observing a minute silence to pay tribute to the fallen Rangers in line of duty and offering of butter lamps.
The CFO offered thank you note to Rangers for protecting our forests, environment and natural resources for all time to come. She highlighted that the World Ranger Day both commemorates Rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and celebrates the critical work Rangers do to protect the world’s natural and cultural treasures.
The Day is observed annually on July 31 and is celebrated by the International Ranger Federation’s (IRF’s) member Associations, the Thin Green Line Foundation, and other organisations, schools and individuals who support the work of Rangers and the IRF worldwide. The first World Ranger Day was observed in 2007 on the 15th anniversary of the founding of the IRF.
A presentation was made on the globally threatened White-bellied Heron (WBH) by Chhimi Dorji, Forestry Officer to the staff in the conference hall followed by a presentation on Rufous-necked Hornbill (RNH) by Kinley, Sr. Forest Ranger III to educate and further strengthen the conservation determination of the forestry staff. The CFO highlighted on the need of conserving these and other species of flora and fauna with special focus and priority on the threatened species like Tiger, Red Panda, Golden Mahaseer, Guar, RNH and WBH dwelling in the Divisional jurisdiction.
A session on experience sharing among the staff was done where the senior staff shared the memorable and interesting stories that happened in their service journey. Cultural programs were performed to entertain the attendees followed by election and awarding of best employee in the Division. Dhan Bdr. Chettri, Range Officer, Tsirang Range was awarded the best employee award in the technical category and Shivalal Dhakal, ESP was awarded the best employee in administrative and support category for 2017.
In the afternoon, an intra-divisional khuru tournament was organised to commemorate the occasion between teams of Division HQ staff, Tsirang Range staff, Mendrelgang Beat Office staff and Tsirangtoe Beat Office Staff. The day ended with Tashi Lebey.
