11-15 March, Sarpang: Research Development Centre (RDC) Bajo, in partnership with the Agriculture Machinery Centre (AMC), Bhur conducted a five days Training of Trainers (ToT) on farmers group/cooperative formation for the extension agents of Punakha, Dagana, Tsirang and Wangdue from March 11 to 15, 2014 at Bhur under Sarpang Dzongkhag. The training was designed to help field staff in the dzongkhags to better understand groups and cooperatives. With the launch of the rice commercialisation program, the Department of Agriculture (DoA) has initiated the formation of many farmers groups in the potential rice growing areas.
Thirty extension personnel attended the training, the broad objectives of the Agricultural Cooperatives/groups being to Develop a strong and sustainable agricultural groups/cooperatives, Improve economic and social status of farmers, Provide service to members and Contribute to the development of rural economy and rural community, and to the national economy
The training covered Generalities of Farmers groups and Cooperatives, Group formation and Development strategy, Defining By-laws and constitutions, Act and regulations, Benefits of registration, Linkages and roles of stakeholders and registration procedures. The training was a part of the DoA’s effort to enhancing production and productivity in the country and it was funded by DRDP.
