4 July Thimphu. The International day of Co-operatives which falls on the first Saturday of the month of July every year was celebrated by planting asparagus and by launching cooperatives song above Tandrin Ney by Hon’ble Lyoenchen Tshering Tobgay accompanied by MoAF Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Dasho Tenzin Dhendup, MoAF Secretary, Members of parliament, officials from the Ministry and the volunteers from famer’s group and cooperative groups under Thimphu Dzongkhag.
The International Day of Cooperatives this year marked and celebrated ‘Equality’ as the identified theme of the day. The Department of Agriculture Marketing and cooperatives (DAMC), MoAf coordinated the event to exercise the mandate to implement the Cooperatives (Amendment) Act of Bhutan (CAP), 2009.
On the same day Hon’ble Lyonchoen and MoAF Lyonpo visited Kuenselphodrang for the development of 4.7 km and width 1.5 meters, second phase biking trail from Kuenselphodrang to Motithang top coordinated by Nature Recreation and ecotourism Division (NRED) under Department of Forest and Park Services.
The Development of the 2nd phase trail is to be done on voluntary basis. During the opening event some 63 participants from MoAF, Desuup, Clean Bhutan, two tourist from Singapore, Bikers, Operator and media houses had managed to develop a modest 60 meters trail in three hours. The working tools, first aid, working lunch and refreshment was provided by NRED.
The trail is aimed to provide alternate recreational area for the city dwellers and youth alike. It will also act as a fire line between the forest and the town. More over the volunteers were encouraged for this event in order to instill sense of belonging within them.
