15 September 2015, Thimphu: The five member delegates from the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC), Thailand, comprising of Mr. Sakchai Sriboonsue, Secretary General of ACFS; Mr. Chatchai Prathummal, Acting Director of Information and Technology Centre, ACFS; Mr. Apisit Prakarnkamanat, Veterinarian, Office of Commodity and System Standards Accreditation, ACFS; Ms. Patamaporn Usaha, Policy and Plant Analyst, Division of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards Policy, ACFS and Ms. Surisa Noiin, Policy and Plant Analyst, Division of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards Policy, ACFS were in the country for a period of five days from 9 to 13 September 2015.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), RGoB and the MoAC, Thailand on Agriculture Development, the ACFS of the MoAC, Thailand has been identified as the counterpart of BAFRA. The ACFS has been intrumental in the capacity development of BAFRA through training of regulatory and quarantine officials in areas of organic agriculture, animal quarantine and food safety. The purpose of their visit was to discuss on the future areas of collaboration and mechanism for institutional linkage to strengthen food safety including veterinary public health measures, organic agriculture, biosecrutiy components such as quarantine, surveillance and monitoring, trade facilitation activities.
They have visited various BAFRA field offices and organic farms to assess the strength and gaps of existing food safety and biosecurity measures being implemented by BAFRA and advice for improvement.
The delegation left the country on 13 September 2015.
