June 2: As every year, this year too, the Social Forestry Day coinciding with the Coronation Anniversary of our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo has been celebrated across the country by planting tree saplings. In Thimphu, the event was held at Kuenselphodrang Nature Park.
About 300 people lead by the Hon’ble Agriculture Minister, with volunteers from Kelki High School, Save the Children and Amankora and officials from the Ministry took part in planting about 1,000 saplings of Oak and Bluepine.
The Minister in his address to the gathering highlighted the significance of the day and benefits of forest and thus the need to plant trees. He also thanked the volunteers who turned up in great numbers to help in greening our bare slopes and contribute to maintaining the constitutional mandate of 60% forest cover for all times to come.
Besides, road side avenue plantations were carried out along the Thimphu-Paro highway by forestry staff from Paro and Thimphu Divisions.
