Second National Stakeholders Meeting on draft In-depth Country Assessment Report To improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics conducted

Hotel Migmar, Olakha, Thimphu, 8 May 2014. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) with support from Food and Agricultural Organization for Asia-Pacific Region (FAORAP) and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia-Pacific (UNESCAP) organized a half-daySecondNational Stakeholders Meeting on In-depth Country Assessment Report (IdCA) for improving RNR statistics on 8 May 2014 at Hotel Migmar.

 The meeting was attended by about 23 officials representing major stakeholders both within and agencies outside the RNR sector. Mr. Dorji Dhradhul, the Director of Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC) graced the opening ceremony and Mr. Phub Sangay, Chief Statistical Officer from National Statistical Bureau (NSB), served as the chair. Mr. Allan Nicholls, Regional Coordinator for Implementation of Regional Action Plan for improving Agricultural and Rural Statistics form FAORAP and Mr. Yagyash Gautam, FAO’s International Consultant facilitated the meeting assisted by Mr. Sangay Tempa, National Consultant. The other dignitaries who attended the meeting include, Mr. Hidetaka Sakabe, the Resident Representative of JICA and Mr. Chadho Tenzin, the Assistant Representative of FAO-Bhutan.

 The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and validate the draft IdCA report. The main objective of the IdCA report is to prepare groundwork for a Sector Plan for RNR Statistics of Bhutan. Therefore, the following key areas were the focus of discussions at the meeting.

  • Discuss and agree on the changes needed in the report.
  • Discuss and agree on the minimum core data sets.
  • Lay priorities and draw time schedule for future work.
