May 3-9, Gelephu: Fifteen participants including Piggery Focal Persons from RLDCs of Wangdue and Zhemgang are attending a week long training on ‘Scientific Pig Breeding and Management’ at the National Piggery Research Centre (NPiRC). The training is particularly focused on two potential Dzongkhags of Tsirang and Sarpang.
Both theory and practical module of two-way learning process is being adopted. The training will cover the proposal writing, feasibility study and cost benefit analysis of the farm business in addition to overall farm management aspects.
Participants will further have a field visit to various farms at both Dzongkhags. It is expected to disseminate knowledge and skills acquired from the training to help our farmers once they are back in the field.
Till date, the NPiRC have established more than 55 contract piglet breeding farms in the field to fill up the piglet demand gap, mostly concentrated at Sarpang and Tsirang. The technical knowhow on pig breeding and management is felt highly essential for effective service delivery and farm management.
