26 November, Sarpang: Sarpang Dzongkhag has seven non-wood forestry product management and marketing groups. The Dzongkhag Forestry Sector conducted monitoring, review and revision of management plans for the group during the month of October and November 2015. In addition, one of the objectives was to create awareness on Satuwa (Paris polyphylla) as per the directives from the department. The awareness training was conducted in Jigmecholing and Chudzom Gewogs with reference to guidelines for resource assessment and management of Satuwa.
During the awareness workshop conducted by the Dzongkhag Forestry Sector, the Non-wood Forest Products (NWFP) Coordinator expressed the presence of Satuwaat Jhandey Bichkhola. Similarly, a field visit was conducted on 19 November 2015 to Jhandey Bichkhola. During the field visit, Satuwa was recorded for the first time in Sarpang dzongkhag in Malingini below Jhandey Bichkholaat. The plant was recorded in a cool broadleaved forest at an altitude of 2190 metres above sea level. It was found along the seasonal streams in moist site conditions. Since Satuwa is under dormant stage at this time, just about 5 rhizomes were recorded as it is also difficult to spot. Tree species such as Persia spp., Quercuslamellosa, Acer spp., Symplocus spp., and herbs such as Elatrostemma spp., Girardiana spp., Dare (local name) were some of the associates. The plant was located about 5 hours walk from the RNR Centre.
