16 September, Thimphu: A four member delegation from Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA), Philippines led by the Secretary General, Ms. Ma. Estrella Penunia met the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor.
The delegation is in the country to understand about farmers’ groups and cooperatives as well as share their experiences. During the stay from September 15-23, the delegation will visit Eusu Vegetable Group in Haa, Sampheling Dairy Group in Chukha and relevant non-governmental organisations. The visit is expected to be beneficial for Bhutanese farmers in enhancing their knowledge in terms of value chain and marketing opportunities.
AFA established in 2002, is an Asian alliance of national farmers organisations composed of small scale women farmers, indigenous peoples, forest users and pastoralists. It aims to strengthen the capacities of the national farmer organisations and ensure eradication of poverty and hunger, increased resilience and sense of well-being of family farmers in Asia. It works through cross cutting strategic interventions such as policy advocacy, capacity building, knowledge management and sustainability.
