18 April, Thimphu: The 12th Annual Refreshers Course on the theme “Strengthening Animal Biosecurity and Veterinary Public Health Measures” is being organised in the capital for the livestock Inspectors from 18 to 19 April 2014.
The aim of the event is to improve the proficiency of the regulatory and quarantine officials to safeguard the health and life of humans, animals, plants and the environment from the risk of exotic pests and diseases. “It provides you all with the opportunity to update your knowledge and skills and keep abreast of the important issues pertaining to animal biosecurity and veterinary public health regulatory measures taking place at national, regional and international levels” shared Mr. Karma Dorji, Executive Director of BAFRA with the Inspectors.
The Executive Director shared that in order to familiarise the Inspectors with the Biosafety Bill 2013, this year’s training will cover topic on the Bill and will also give an introduction to Genetically Modified Organisms and GM safety assessment.
The Executive Director also acknowledged the hard work put in by the officials of BAFRA. He shared that BAFRA has received appreciation from the highest authority for its achievements; however, he also reminded that this does not mean that we can remain satisfied.
The two days refresher course is organised with fund assistance from the National Biosafety framework Project implemented by BAFRA.
