26 November, Thimphu: A one day planning workshop was organised at the Rochog Pel Hotel to discuss the Climate Change Information System (CCIS) for the RNR sector. CCIS is one of the key activities under the Global Climate Change Alliance, a project to enhance resilience of Bhutan’s rural households to the effects of climate change.
Around twenty-one participants including from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, National Statistical Bureau and the Ministry attended it along with a team from ICIMOD.
The meeting discussed the CCIS concept note which covers overall strategic considerations and choices regarding purpose, partners and modalities for the envisaged RNR-CCIS to be implemented by the Council for RNR-Research of Bhutan.
Besides, various climate change information gaps and needs along with the responsibilities for the stakeholders were identified.
According to a spokesperson, CCIS will help Bhutan to ensure reliable data collection, processing and documentation that will strengthen the capacities and preparedness of all stakeholders to reduce vulnerability against the impacts of climate change in the country.
