Through the National Biosafety Framework Project, BAFRA, a four-day long training workshop on “Inspection, Monitoring and Handling Applications of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)” is underway in Wangchuk Resort, Thimphu from 14th to 17th July 2014. A total of forty officials from various BAFRA field offices are being trained on inspection, monitoring and handling applications of GMOs. The main objective of this training workshop is to equip the field officials with the necessary skills for inspection and monitoring of GMOs and products derived from GMOs.
With the enactment of Biosafety Bill of Bhutan 2014 and as the National Competent Authority for biosafety, BAFRA will be mandated to carry-out inspection, monitoring and detection of GMOs and products derived from GMOs.
