Bhutan’s delegation led by Honorable Speaker, National Assembly, Parliament of Bhutan participated in the First High Level Steering Committee Meeting of Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program at Bishkek, Krygz Republic 19-20 March 2015. This meeting is a continued joint effort of the twelve range countries following the Bishkek Declaration which was adopted in October 2013 at the Global Forum on Snow Leopard Conservation under the leadership of the President of the Krygz Republic Almazbek Atambayev. This global program intends to ensure the long term survival of the snow leopard in its natural ecosystem. This initiative is a joint venture of the governments of the range counties, civil society, international organizations and the private sector.
The main objectives of the meeting were to review progress of Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem and Protection Program through the progress of National Snow Leopard Ecosystem Programs in the twelve Snow Leopard range countries, status of the development of the landscape management plans, discuss the strategies and short term goals for resource mobilization, reviewing and confirming the roles and responsibilities of the then working secretariat and now ‘Global Secretariat’. For the next two years, the global secretariat will be Chaired by Pakistan and Co-Chaired by Krgyz Reepublic. The meeting also endorsed the resolutions of the meeting and each range country shared their commitment towards the conservation of Snow leopard.

In one of the rarest moments in wildlife front, a direct sighting of snow leopard that too, a triplet had been made in Jigme Dorji National Park (JDNP), recently. The sighting was made at Tongdreyshesa in the alpine region at an elevation of 4050masl. Tongdreyshena is a remote rocky undulated alpine region in the central part of the park and is officially three days strenuous walk from the nearest roadhead. It falls under Lingzhi Drungkhag of Thimphu dzongkhag.

The Bhutan Ecological Society (BES) would like invite all interested national and international scientists and practitioners to submit their abstract to email@example.com , for consideration for the publication in 2015 issue of Proceedings of BES. Submissions are due by 5 PM on 15 May 2015. Extensions are available upon request.
The 2015 issue will have a special themed subsection on Hydropower and the Environment. However, we are also accepting submissions on any other topic relevant to environment and conservation. Original submissions will be accepted for the following categories:
