  • Press Release: Social Forestry Day 2015 Celebrations

    2nd June, 2015, Thimphu: More than 350 volunteers including desups, officials from the Ministry of Finance, foresters and other RNR Officials in Thimphu planted about more than 4500 saplings above the Samarzingkha ridge facing the historical Genius World Records Plantation that was going on from 8-9 am at Kuensel Phodrang on occasion of Social Forestry Day Celebrations commemorating the official Crowning of the Fourth King of Bhutan, His Majesty Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck in 1974.

    Hon’ble MoAF Minister, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, planting the first tree to inaugurate the establishement of a 60 acres plantation above Samarzingkha to commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
    Agriculture and Forests Hon’ble Minister, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, planting the first tree of 4500 saplings which will cover an area of 10 acres out of the 85 acres planned for reforrestation this year, to commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck.     2nd June 2015 is a National Holiday to commemorate the Official Crowning of the Fourth King of Bhutan, His Majesty Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck in 1974. This day is also celebrated as Social Forestry Day where school children plant trees in and around their schools.

  • Commemorative plantation to be held in Tsirang

    The Tsirang Forest Division in collaboration with the Dzongkhag Administration will be carrying out commemorative plantation coinciding with the Social Forestry Day celebration on June 2. The Division will be establishing commemorative plantation in an area covering 9.8 acres above the National Football Stadium, Damphu basically to convert the degraded forest into manmade high value forests by planting local valuable species like Champ for meeting the future timber requirements.

    The Veteran Lam Neten, Tsirang Dratsang has kindly agreed to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dasho Drangpon, Dasho Dzongrab, the sector heads from Tsirang, representatives from different regional offices, principals, students, Gup, Magmi and tshogpa of the neighbouring geogs and the staff of the Forestry Department will take part in the tree planting activities.
