    Our forest plantation record dates back to the late 1940s when the first plantation was carried out in Gelephu in an area of 3.20 acres.  The annual tree planting tradition of the Department was re-enforced with the declaration of June 2 as the Social Forestry Day in 1985 to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, who is a visionary environmentalist.  On this day, the nation comes together as a family to plant saplings and share the values of planting trees for a healthy local environment and also enriching wildlife habitats.

  • Four power tillers for Gasa dzongkhag

    A50X969729 – 31 May, Gasa: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji handed over four power tillers to the gewog RNR extension agents in the presence of Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Khatoe-Lunana constituency, Dasho Dzongda, and gups of their respective gewogs on 30 May morning. Hon’ble Minister said that the main objectives of distributing power tillers are to ease the hardships faced by the farmers, enhance agricultural production and address the issue of farm labour shortage. Further, Hon’ble urged the farmers to make most out of the power tillers and strive towards enhancing production.

    The chairman of Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) of Gasa dzongkhag thanked the government on behalf of the people of the dzongkhag. He said that the power tillers will not only help the farmers in tilling their land but also during emergencies.

    May 24, Samtse: The Hon’ble Prime Minister for Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay initiated the ground breaking ceremony of Sherubling-Buka Farm Road in Tading geog. The ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Agriculture Minister, Yeshey Dorji; Hon’ble Minister for Information and Communications, D N Dhungyel, Members of Parliament from Samtse along with the Project Director and Engineer for Remote Rural Communities Development Project (RRCDP); officials and locals.
