    22 May 2017, Punakha: Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Minister for Agriculture and Forests last Saturday, 20 May, inaugurated two farm shops and the construction of a farm road in Punakha Dzongkhag.  The construction of the 6.5 kilometers farm road was inaugurated at Yebesa village while a farm shop each for Chhubu and Shengana gewogs were also launched on the same day.

  • Foresters successfully complete Arms Training at Tencholing

    foresters22 May 2017, Wangdue: For the last two weeks, getting only a few hours of sleep, getting charred by the sweltering sun, wallowing in the dust, shouting their lungs out, stamping their feet almost to the breaking point, 112 Foresters underwent the intensive arms training at the Royal Bhutan Army Training Centre at Tencholing in Wangdue.

    The 112 foresters successfully completed their rigorous arms training at Tencholing on 20 May 2017. The closing ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji; accompanied by Kinley Tshering, Offtg. Director of the Department of Forest and Park Services; Chief Forestry Officer of the Thimphu Division and other officials.

  • Apiculture Farming in Wangdue


    21 May 2017, Wangdue: Apiculture or beekeeping activity has been introduced in Wangduephodrang for the first time. The Dzongkhag Livestock sector, Wangduephodrang has distributed 50 full-fledged strong Apis Mellifera (improved bees) bee hives to 16 interested and innovative farmers in Gangtey, Phobji and Dangchu gewogs and another 22 Apis Cerana(local bee) full-fledged strong bee hives to the farmers in Gasetshogom gewog.

    Apis Mellifera (improved bees) were procured from the Bee Keepers Cooperative of Bhutan in Bumthang and Apis Cerana from Patselling Beekeeper group in Tsirang. The sector initiated the bee keeping activity as the Dzongkhag is assigned to produce honey as per the APA plan. Prior to the supply of bees in Phobji, Gantey and Dangchu gewogs field trial was conducted by the experts from the National Apiculture Program (NAP) based at the National Highland Research & Development Centre (NHR&DC), Jakar where honey bee keeping was found suitable and promising.

  • Western Region Launches First Captive Fishery Program

    drukdingsa21 May 2017, Chukha: The Western Region launched its first captive fishery program, the Drukdingsa Captive Fishery Management Program on Friday, May 19 2017 at Drukdingsa, Doongna under Chukha dzongkhag. The program is the first of its kind in the region.

    The potential for instituting a community based capture fishery program in Drukdingsa was first realised by the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Chukha in 2014. Following this, a four-day sensitisation training cum scoping program was carried out jointly by the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Chukha, the NRCR&LF and the Gedu Forest Division.
