• Nation-wide survey confirms 103 Tigers in Bhutan

    July, 30, 2015, Thimphu: There are officially 103 tiger individuals (Panthera tigris tigris) roving freely within the wilderness of the country. The estimated range of credible tiger number in the country is within 84 to 124. From 78 tigers estimated in 1998, the tiger population has increased to 103 in 2015. This is 39 percent increase in last 17 years, which is almost more than one tiger every year.

    There is 0.46 tiger for every 100 sq. km of the overall survey area of 28,225 sq. km. However, there are 2 to 3 tigers in every 100 sq. km in areas such as Royal Manas National Park (RMNP), Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park (JSWNP) and Zhemgang forest division.

  • Global Tiger Day 2015 celebrated at Thimphu

    Global Tiger Day Celebration on 29 July 2015

    30 July 2015, Thimphu: Bhutan celebrated Global Tiger Day 2015, with the theme “Taking stock of Mountain Tigers in Bhutan for a Healthy Environment,”  on 29 July at Royal Convention Centre in Thimphu. Initially declared in 2010 at St. Petersburg in Russia, Global Tiger Day was the consensus of all the 13 Tiger Range Countries to lobby for the support to reverse the dwindling tiger populations and to formulate an overarching global strategy to conserve wild tigers and their natural habitats.

  • Notification

    This is to inform that the Delimitation of Dzongkhag Thromdes in 15 Dzongkhags and Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes in 18 Dzongkhags were completed and notified vide Delimitation Commission of Bhutan’s Notification No: DC/CHAIR/2015/1430 dated 15th of July 2105.

    Accordingly, all Registered Voters of the affected Gewogs and Chiwogs with their Mitsi under Dzongkhag Thromdes and Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes are advised to obtain their Voters Photo Identity Cards (VPIC) by contacting the respective Dzongkhag Election Offices (DzEOs) or the Election Commission of Bhutan, Thimphu starting from 1st of September 2015 so that s/he would be able to Vote or Stand as a Candidate in the Dzongkhag Thromde Elections from the preferred Demkhongs.
