• Supporting Green Compensatory Plantation

    IMG_20180603_094926_HDRThimphu, June 2: Coinciding with the Social Forestry Day, the Natural Resources Development Corporation Limited (NRDCL) partnered with Bank of Bhutan Limited (BoBL) and Druk Air Corporation Limited for plantation at 4 hectares of area at Chang Debsi under the initiative of “Supporting Green Compensatory Plantation’ (SGCP). A total of 6,400 noss of tree seedlings comprised of Pinus wallichina and Quercuss sp. have been planted. Funding support for this activity including maintenance up to five years is extended by the two companies.

    SGCP is an important initiative of DHI introduced in 2017 to encourage DHI owned companies in tree plantation program. It includes afforestation in blank areas, reforestation in degraded/deforested areas, rehabilitation of fire burnt and pest/disease affected areas. The program also includes plantation to protect the watershed areas and commercial tree plantation.

  • ARDC-Samtenling observed Social Forestry Day

    Untitled-1Sarpang, June 2: The Agriculture Research Development Centre (ARDC), Samtenling jointly with Regional Seed Centre, Regional Farm Machinery Corporation Ltd, Gewog Administration, Geog RNR Extension, Samtenling Primary School and farming communities observed the Social Forestry Day coinciding with coronation day of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo by planting saplings and grasses at drinking and irrigation water source in Paitikhola, Samtenling.

    Paitikhola has been serving as a water source for various institutions and farming communities. However due to frequent and torrential rainfall, the area is vulnerable to landslides and degradation leading to drying of water. Therefore, to protect and secure water source from future mishaps, such program was organised.

    The Social Forestry Day on 2nd June coinciding with the coronation anniversary of our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo is an important annual event for the Department of Forests and Park Services. As usual, this year too, the day has been widely celebrated across the country by planting tree saplings.
