• National Training Workshop on SUA/FBS underway

    1Phuentsholing, 4-8 June: A five days national training workshop on compilation of Supply Utilisation Account (SUA)/Food Balance Sheet (FBS) is underway at Phuentsholing. FBS is a national accounting/statistical framework, presenting a comprehensive picture of the pattern of a country’s food supply during a specified reference period. It will provide important statistics that are crucial in making evidence-based planning and formulating policies.

    The main objective of the training is to enable participants from relevant departments/agencies of RGoB, who are directly involved in food related data collection/processing to understand the concept of SUA/FBS and compute the FBS for Bhutan.

  • Fodder germplasm established at Bartseri

    1Pemagatshel: With the establishment of fodder germplasm, Aum Tashi Pema of Bartseri under Shumar gewog will be no longer worried to feed her three milking cows next season. The team comprising of students from the school agricultural program of Pemagatshel Middle Secondary School, Dzongkhag Livestock Sector and National Research Development Centre for Animal Nutrition (NRDCAN), Bumthang jointly developed a fodder germplasm in her 1 acre of fallow land.

    The team planted with 10000 Pakshong fodder slips (Pennisetum purpureum), also known as Napier grass, elephant grass or Uganda grass which is becoming a primary fodder crops for dairy farming in sub-tropical areas.

  • Tsirang Forest Division launches PHPA II Compensatory Plantation

    1Tsirang, June 4: Coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen and World Environment Day for Bhutan, the Chief Forestry Officer (CFO), Tsirang Forest Division has launched the PHPA II compensatory plantation in Community Forest Project at Semjong gewog. The 50 Ha plantation site is dedicated to Her Majesty The Gyaltshuen, the Royal Patron for Environment.

    The Division has observed the day with gewog administration, public, teachers and students of Semjong and community forest management group (CFMG) members along with other dignitaries. The CFO graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

  • 5 June 2018: Pedestrians’ Day

Therefore, this is to notify all concerned that tomorrow 5 June 2018 is Pedestrians’ Day, when the vehicle traffic is limited in city centres. The exception is given to emergency and public transport.

  • Social Forestry Day celebrated in Samdrup Jongkhar

    Participants including the members from the Geruwa communitySamdrup Jongkhar, June 2: With the inception of the Social Forestry Division in 1985, the June 2nd is celebrated every year as a Social Forestry Day coinciding with coronation day of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

    To mark the day, the Divisional Forest Office, Samdrup Jongkhar and community of Geruwa planted 150 seedlings. The Office also distributed 1063 mixed saplings to institutions and agencies for plantation with prayer for His Majesty’s long life and sustainable forest cover.
