The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER) published Historically Significant Trees of Bhutan during the opening ceremony of the 10th World Dendro Conference on June 10 at the conference hall of the Royal University of Bhutan in Thimphu. This is an effort of the institute to document the stories behind each historically significant trees of Bhutan and to check the age of the tree through the use of dendrochronology.
The institute embarked on the study after having received the Royal command through the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests to document the same. Bhutan is filled with myths and Bhutanese can be quite certain that every tree near the monasteries and Dzongs or for that matter any cypress tree in Bhutan is associated with stories in relation to important figures who walked the country states the report.
