• Pemachoeling Heritage Forest inaugurated in Tsirang

    1Tsirang: For centuries, Bhutanese have treasured the natural environment and have looked upon it as the source of all life. Bhutan wishes to continue living in harmony with nature and to pass on this rich heritage to her future generations. As per the provision of Forest and Nature Conservation Act 1995, Chapter 6, section 21(A) and subsequently targeted by the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) in establishment of twenty Heritage Forests in the Country in the 11th five year plan, Territorial Forest Division, Tsirang in consultation with various stakeholders such as Tsirang Dzongkhag Administration, Tsirangtoe Central School and Geog Administration have established a heritage forest at the ruin Dzong and Nye site at Tsirangtoe geog with fund support from the Nature Conservation Division.

    Pemachoeling Heritage Forest (HF) adopted by Tsirang Forest Division was officially inaugurated by Tsirang Dasho Dzongda, Ngawang Pem on 16 September. The ceremony was attended by the regional heads, section heads, Gups of Tsirangtoe, Phuentenchu and Sergithang geogs, principal, teachers and students of Tsirangtoe Central School, local communities, students of Tsirangtoe CS and staff of Tsirang Territorial Division.

  • Executive Senior Vice President, JICA calls on Hon’ble Agriculture Lyonpo

    JICA 2September 18, Thimphu: The JICA Executive Senior vice President Mr. Kazuhiko Koshikawa called on Hon’ble Agriculture Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji.

    During the call on, the activities carried out by JICA and future opportunities for collaborations in Bhutan were discussed. The three member delegates visited the AMC, FMCL and Dasho Nishioka Musuem in Paro, Chuzomsa Bridge Construction site and Agriculture Research and Development Centre in Bajo.

  • UWICER takes over Nature Study Centre at Khebeythang

    1The Nature Study Centre (NSC) located at Khebeythang, at northwest of the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park (JSWNP )was taken over by Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research on 13th September 2017. The formal handing-taking was executed between Director, UWICER and Chief Forestry Officer, JSWNP. The centre which was established to create enabling environment for both national and international naturalist was not in optimum use after its inaugural ceremony on November 11, 1996.

    With taking over the Nature Study Centre, UWICER will use the Center to deliver forest and wildlife management practical components to certificate students and for tailor made courses in forestry; conservation and environment. The centre will also conduct long term monitoring of snow leopards and other important high altitude fauna; and serve as a hub for high altitude flora and faunal studies.The Centre could also be used for field studies for both national and international students who deserve better understanding of nature by virtue of its environmentally pristine location.
