• Developing competency-based framework for Livestock Production Officers

    8-11 May, Paro-The Department of Livestock under the directives of Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) is conducting four days consultation workshop to develop competency-based framework for Livestock Production Officers (LPOs).

    Competency-based Framework (CBF), an initiative of RCSC organised in collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Foundation International, Singapore will institute a structured approach for capacity development of public servants. It is aimed to identify skill needs of employees, assist continuous development and professionalise the public servants to deliver responsibilities effectively and efficiently.

  • Bird Flu notification

    The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests would like to notify the general public that the Bird Flu (HPAI H5N1) outbreak at Dhamdara, Phuentsholing, Chukha Dzongkhag detected on 10 April 2019 has been successfully contained and no further cases have been detected so far. It is also to inform that there is no risk for sale and consumption of poultry and poultry products originating from the outbreak areas of Chukha Dzongkhag.

    The Ministry would like to inform the public that Bhutan is now free of Bird Flu.

  • GFPR 2019 launch from IFPRI

    Nestled in the Himalayas, the Kingdom of Bhutan places top priority on the happiness of its people, tracking well-being with its Gross National Happiness index. The world can learn from this concept, said experts at the Bhutan launch of IFPRI’s 2019 Global Food Policy Report (GFPR) launch in Thimphu April 29. Speakers laid out the opportunities and challenges in meeting the goals of food and nutrition security to achieve “happiness” and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    The launch started with the traditional Marchang (literally, Mar means butter and Chang means alcohol)ceremony which involves offering alcohol to the root and lineage gurus and guardian deities, invoking their blessings to remove any obstacles so that the work (the launch of the GFPR and the collaboration between IFPRI and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, in this case) can be fulfilled successfully.

  • AI refresher course completes for extension staff of west-central region

    22 April-5 May, Tsirang: Twenty five livestock staff of west-central region attended two weeks refresher course on artificial insemination (AI) in Mendrelgang. The course provided them an opportunity to get hands on training on latest insemination procedures, thawing of semen, proper loading of AI gun, application of right AI techniques, proper handling of frozen semen and care/handling of Liquid Nitrogen needed for cryopreservation of frozen semen.
