February 8-9, Phuentsholing: About fifty-six BAFRA officials from 20 Dzongkhags attended the workshop on Meat Safety and Animal Bio-security in Phuentsholing. The workshop imparted hands on training to the livestock inspectors on meat quality and safety through ante-mortem and post mortem examination. They also discussed the draft Standards and Guidelines for Safe Retailing of Meat and Meat products in Bhutan and roll out the bio-security and meat inspection checklist to the field office for implementation.
With an advancement in science (biotechnology) and globalisation of trade and climate change, BAFRA staff in the field are confronted with new challenges to deal with constant threat of transboundary movement of livestock and their products and its associated bio-security risk (brucella, leptospira, bovine TB etc.).
