  • Meat ban notification

    This is to bring to the notice of all the concerned that the slaughter of animals, import and sale of meat is prohibited from 16 February 2018 to 17 March 2018 coinciding with the first month of the Bhutanese calendar which is in accordance with the Section 16.5 of the Livestock Act of Bhutan 2001.

  • Workshop on Meat Safety and Animal Bio-security

    February 8-9, Phuentsholing: About fifty-six BAFRA officials from 20 Dzongkhags attended the workshop on Meat Safety and Animal Bio-security in Phuentsholing. The workshop imparted hands on training to the livestock inspectors on meat quality and safety through ante-mortem and post mortem examination. They also discussed the draft Standards and Guidelines for Safe Retailing of Meat and Meat products in Bhutan and roll out the bio-security and meat inspection checklist to the field office for implementation.

    With an advancement in science (biotechnology) and globalisation of trade and climate change, BAFRA staff in the field are confronted with new challenges to deal with constant threat of transboundary movement of livestock and their products and its associated bio-security risk (brucella, leptospira, bovine TB etc.).

  • First Technical Coordination meeting for Department of Agriculture underway

    February 12-14, Mongar: After the dissolution of CoRRB and being felt the need, Agriculture Research & Extension Division under the Department of Agriculture has instituted the Technical Coordination Meeting for effective and efficient development in Agriculture Research. The First Technical Coordination Meeting is being held at ARDSC Lingmethang chaired by the Hon’ble Director, DoA and the participants include Specialists, Chiefs, Program Directors and all other eminent researchers within the Department.

    The three days Technical Coordination Meeting would be discussing on all major issues and challenges faced by the research system and hence come up with way forward to streamline the research system.
