• Press Release on World Food Day

    Thimphu: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) will commemorate World Food Day 2020 on a theme “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our Actions are our Future” on 16 October.

    The event is a joint effort among the MoAF, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and other partners.  Amidst the global health crisis of COVID-19, the event is an opportunity to reflect on this year’s theme while working together to address issues related to food, nutrition, agriculture and overall health and well-being of the citizens.

    Each year, the World Food Day is observed coinciding with the founding day of the FAO. World Food Day 2020 also marks the 75th anniversary of FAO in an exceptional moment as countries around the world deal with the widespread effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The day is being marked just a week after WFP, the largest humanitarian organization and the first responder on the frontlines of hunger, food insecurity and disasters was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

  • World Food Day celebration to go Live this year

    Amid the COVID19 situation, the World Food Day celebration with a theme “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our Actions are our Future” will go Live on 16 October starting from 9.30 am-1 pm.

    Please tune in to the Facebook page of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests for Live Streaming (https://www.facebook.com/bhutanmoaf).

    Among others, the day will have a virtual conference, launch the rice fortification awareness video and announce the winners for the School Agriculture Programme annual award and the food recipe contest.

  • A batch of 64 foresters attends arms and drill training at MTC

    Wangdue: A batch of 64 foresters joined Military Training Centre (MTC) at Tencholing, Wangdue, to undergo a month-long arms and drill training, beginning 10th of this month. The batch includes 23 fresh recruits of forestry officers, 6 rangers, 24 foresters and 12 drivers. Out of which 11 of them are females.

    This comes at an appropriate time when the department, coinciding with World Ranger Day this year, on July 31, introduced revised gosa system whereby all foresters from lowest to the highest position level adorns new and unique insignia system.
