• Sanam Lyonpo meets delegation from Asian Farmers’ Association

    16 September, Thimphu: A four member delegation from Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA), Philippines led by the Secretary General, Ms. Ma. Estrella Penunia met the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor.

    The delegation is in the country to understand about farmers’ groups and cooperatives as well as share their experiences. During the stay from September 15-23, the delegation will visit Eusu Vegetable Group in Haa, Sampheling Dairy Group in Chukha and relevant non-governmental organisations. The visit is expected to be beneficial for Bhutanese farmers in enhancing their knowledge in terms of value chain and marketing opportunities.

  • Agriculture officials learn about Organic Farming Technologies

    11-13 September, Thimphu: More than 50 participants including the agriculture researchers, extension officers and relevant stakeholders attended a training on Organic Farming Technologies at the Agriculture Research Development Centre (ARDC)-Yusipang. The training was conducted by ARDC-Yusipang and ICIMOD as part of the Resilient Mountain Solutions (RMS) activity.

    During the training, a team from ICIMOD made a brief presentation on the mission, objectives and overall background of ICIMOD and RMS. The members from Sikkim also presented on the transition of organic agriculture in Sikkim highlighting how they had fulfilled the aims of being fully organic. They shared that organic agriculture management and certification in Sikkim was done between 2003-2015 in which a total area of 76169 hectares land was certified.
