The Department of Agriculture released the fourth volume of the Bhutanese Journal of Agriculture (BJA), Issue 1. The Department would like to thank all the authors, reviewers and the editorial board members for their valuable contribution and for putting in extra effort to publish this edition successfully.
This edition comprises twelve technical papers that involve research in horticulture that culminated in the department releasing four new mango varieties as well as insights into thinning effects on Hosui Pear fruit quality and Yield. The volume also includes results from research efforts into new potato and beans varieties, performance assessment and oil recovery of groundnut accessions, sowing time of quinoa in a potato-based cropping system, and studies into postharvest losses in quinoa. Interesting findings on the physio-chemical and organoleptic attributes of apple wine from local and imported yeast strains and effects of different nursery methods and manures on Chirayita cultivation including performance of farmer groups and cooperatives in eastern Bhutan are also covered.
