    The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests is pleased to announce the following positions for lateral transfer under the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) as detailed below:

  • National Seminar on implementation of the ABS regime in Bhutan held

    ParticipantsThimphu: The National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) along with the NPIF project implementing partners, Menjong Sorig Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited (MSPCL) and Bio Bhutan organised a seminar on “Sharing of experiences on the implementation of the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) regime in Bhutan” on June 8.

    The seminar was focused on the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilisation to the Convention on Biological Diversity which is an international agreement which aims at sharing the benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources in a fair and equitable way.

  • Historically Significant Trees of Bhutan Launched

    The Hon'ble Lyonpo launched the book on Historically Significant Trees of BhutanThe Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER) published Historically Significant Trees of Bhutan during the opening ceremony of the 10th World Dendro Conference on June 10 at the conference hall of the Royal University of Bhutan in Thimphu. This is an effort of the institute to document the stories behind each historically significant trees of Bhutan and to check the age of the tree through the use of dendrochronology.

    The institute embarked on the study after having received the Royal command through the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests to document the same. Bhutan is filled with myths and Bhutanese can be quite certain that every tree near the monasteries and Dzongs or for that matter any cypress tree in Bhutan is associated with stories in relation to important figures who walked the country states the report.
