19 September, Thimphu: Sixty-six graduates from the College of Natural Resources (CNR) and Ugyen Wangchuk Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE) attended a half-day orientation program at the conference hall of the Royal Society for Protection of Nature.
The program was chaired by the Hon’ble Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji, the Minister for Agriculture and Forests (MoAF). Also present were the MoAF Secretary, Dasho Tenzin Dhendup along with the departmental and agencies heads and other senior officials.
Addressing the graduates, Lyonpo expressed his Trashi Delek and welcomed them in the RNR-family. He urged them to work closely with their colleagues and seniors and make the best of opportunity. He also advised them to practically understand the rural communities and make a difference in their livelihood.
In order to familiarise the graduates on the Ministry, representative from the departments and agencies shared presentations highlighting their mandates, vision and objectives along with its 11th five year plan targets and strategies. Graduates were also provided opportunities to clear their doubts during a question and answer session.
Of the sixty-six, nine will work for agriculture, 12 for livestock and 45 (15 from CNR and 30 from UWCIE) will work for forestry departments. Although, 107 had applied, only 66 were selected based on merit due to limited post approved. However, the Ministry is in the process of looking for alternative options to help those unemployed graduates.
