This is to notify all Food Importers that seaweeds which was banned by Ministry of Agriculture and Forests vide Notification BAFRA/MoAF/5-47/170 dated 14 November 2016 are now allowed for importation upon production of valid Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from Accredited Laboratories indicating safe levels of heavy metals. However, the Importers shall seek Import Permit for Seaweeds from BAFRA, Head Office, Thimphu prior to importation. The Import permit application form is available on the BAFRA website (www.bafra.gov.bt), as well as all BAFRA Offices (including Head Office) which shall be accompanied by Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from Accredited Laboratory for each batch of product to be imported, against four heavy metals (mercury, lead, In-organic arsenic and cadmium).
Failing to comply with this Notification will be dealt as per the Food Legislations.
