Of late, it is understood that some dubious individuals have been importing pet dogs for commercial sale into the country without prior Import Permit issued by Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA), Ministry of Agriculture and Forests. BAFRA therefore would like to remind and notify the general public once again that import of all types of animals (including pet animals) and their products are permissible only with prior Import Permit issued by BAFRA and upon fulfillment of the conditions prescribed therein which is in accordance with the Livestock Act of Bhutan 2001. Any breach on this requirement is considered as illegal and will be dealt as per the provisions of the above mentioned Act.
This is also to notify the general public that there are unauthorized individuals advertising sale of pet animals (that too at exorbitant prices) through the social media especially the facebook. As notified earlier, any individual wishing to buy such pet animals are advised to seek official documents especially the Import Permit issued by BAFRA, or call BAFRA Toll Free No. 155 to verify the authenticity of the Business Entity before purchasing the pet, or placing the order to purchase.
This is issued in the interest of the general public.
