GFAR is the unique multi-stakeholder global forum on agricultural research and innovation. An open, voluntary forum and a movement for change, GFAR is a global action network, made up of hundreds of partner organizations from public, private and civil society sectors, working together to shape the future of agriculture and food and their role in achieving sustainable development.
At the meeting of the GFAR Steering Committee in February, the GFAR Chair, Mr. Juan Lucas Restrepo, confirmed his intention to step down, due to an anticipated change of role. The Steering Committee outlined the process to be followed for the identification, nomination and election of the new Chair and Vice-Chair; the Committee unanimously appointed Mr. Shantanu Mathur, IFAD, as interim Vice-Chair for the transition.
An announcement and an open call were posted last week to launch the selection process of the new Chair and Vice-Chair. This prestigious and influential role is open to all suitably qualified candidates.
The successful applicant must be widely recognized as a dynamic leader and advocate, actively advancing agriculture within public, private or civil sectors at national/regional/global level, with demonstrated engagement with multiple stakeholders and a high profile in generating, supporting, transforming, adapting, or using, agriculture or food knowledge, research or innovation in support of sustainable development.
Applicants should be prepared and eager to engage representatives of the GFAR Constituencies—who are in turn are engaging the hundreds of Partners in GFAR—in working together to shape the future of agriculture and food and their role in achieving sustainable development.
The GFAR Search Committee will lead the process to identify potential lead candidates, the names of which will be informed to Partners on a no-substantive-objection basis, before final decision by the Steering Committee at their next meeting, on behalf of the Partners’ Assembly.
Nominations or Applications with Curriculum Vitae should be submitted by 5 May 2017, to the GFAR Search Committee Chair, by e-mail to: email@example.com, or by post to GFAR Secretariat, FAO of the UN, Viale delle Terme di Caracalla, 00153, Rome, Italy. We welcome recommendation letters to be attached for reference.
Further information on the role and responsibilities of the Chairperson can be found here. Please refer to section 5.3 of the 2017 GFAR Charter for full terms of reference for the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson.
