July 14-15, Pemagatshel: The Regional Livestock Development Centre (RLDC), Kanglung and Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Pemagatshel organised a two day training on ‘Clean milk production’ for the members of the Nanglam Gonor Gongphel Detshen in Nganglam.
The training funded by RLDC Kanglung imparted the concept, importance and advantages on clean milk production to 30 participants from the group. They were also aware on the factors affecting the milk production and cooling methods.
During the training, the members agreed that besides ensuring clean milk production, the group will reward the three highest milk producers with Nu.100, 50 and 30 respectively every year. The ‘highest milk producing award’ is aimed to create a sense of competition among the members encouraging them to supply maximum milk to the group’s milk processing unit.
One of the active members, Khotsa Jigme Wangchuk from Menchu village expressed his excitement hearing about the award and is confident to be the one of the award recipients.
Khotsa Jigme joined the group in 2012 along with other 23 members. He had happily imagined the days when his group would be supplying 50 to 60 litres of fresh milk daily to the dwellers of Nanglam. However, the scenario has changed; the production has increased by three folds than he had expected. Today, the group has saving of Nu. 2, 50, 000 from the sale of milk and its products.
The group has been successful due to the dairy development program in the Dzongkhag under the initiative of the Livestock Department. Khotsa Jigme attributes the group success to the undying support and timely guidance from the Department. The group members have also proposed for a loan to Business Opportunities and Information Centre for up-scaling the production and are waiting for the approval.
