May 23, Samtse: The 3.1 km Khanzangling farm road is a new achievement in Sangngacholing geog which the Hon’ble Prime Minister for Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay recently inaugurated in presence of the Hon’ble Agriculture Minister, Yeshey Dorji; Hon’ble Information and Communications Minister, DN Dhungyel; Members of Parliament, senior officials and beneficiaries.

The road connects three villages, Khanzangling, Latakhola and Kerabari benefitting 70 households living around. It took around four months to complete starting October 2014 till January 2015. With machineries support from the Central Machinery Unit, the road is estimated to have cost around Nu. 1.74 lakhs through the Government funding.

According to Mr. HP Adhikari, the Dzongkhag Agriculture Officer (DAO), the geog have potential for agriculture production like areca nut, ginger, vegetables, mandarin and cardamom with some livestock products. He added that the lack of proper transportation has been the main problem in geog making it more difficult during emergency. ‘The earlier two hours walking time will now be reduced’ shared the DAO.

Including a Khangzangling, the geog have three farm roads in place, the other two being the Ngedrupling and geog centre roads. Two more are under construction to provide more developmental opportunities for geog farmers.

Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister and the Agriculture Minister met with around one hundred people. The Minister shared that the team was here to understand the village problems and see the agriculture activities. He created awareness on the Ministry’s initiatives like opening up of farm shop, geog bank, power tiller support each for geog and chiwog and hiring services to enhance the farmers’ living standard.

The Prime Minister addressing the people said that the road is very important for any developmental activities. He urged the people to understand their responsibility at least in maintenance of farm roads and help to avoid the wastage of Government resources.

Lyonchhoen also informed that realising the water shortages in geog, the irrigation channel at Yoeseltse is being currently under renovation and will be handed over to them after completion coinciding with the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The meeting ended with the presentation of local’s traditional dances.
