7 November, Thimphu: Dr. Tashi Samdup is sworn in as the new Director for the Department of Livestock from 7 November 2013. Born on September 1, 1967, Dr. Samdup who is from Thimphu has been in the civil service since August 15, 1991.

Holding a degree in Veterinary Medicine, Surgery and Animal Husbandry from College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Kerela Agriculture University, India, he also has a Masters Degree in Animal Breeding and Production from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. He is nearing completion of the PhD programme in Sustainability of Mixed Farming Systems, also from Wageningen University.

Prior to the present post as Director, he served as the Director for the Council of RNR Research of Bhutan (CoRRB) from October 1, 2007 till date.  Before then, he was the Chief Livestock Officer for Department of Livestock till 2003. Among the other various key posts, he served as Sr. Livestock and Veterinary Officer in the then Department of Agriculture and Livestock Support Services, MoA (2000 – 2003), Officer In-Charge, National Jersey Breeding Centre, Samtse (1997 – 2000) and as Officer In-Charge, National Horse & Brown Swiss Cattle Breeding Programme, Bumthang (1993 – 1997).

With his vast knowledge and experience in the field, the RNR family looks forward to yet another dynamic leadership under him.
