Native Poultry and Heifer Breeding Centre at Sertsam in Lhuentse Inaugurated

The Sertsam Farm was inaugurated by Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo on 17 July 2018. The farm is in Lhuentse Dzongkhag and was established on February 2017 coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of The Gyalsey. It has a total area of 95.5 acres and is at an altitude of 989 metres above sea level.

The farm has 126 Cattle including milking cows, heifers and young bulls. Regarding native poultry there are 272 birds, amongst them Black, Seim and Belochems.

The farm was established with the help of the EU/GoI Project, BTFE and the RGoB for almostt Nu. 30 million.

The mandate of Sertsam Farm is primarily to conserve the Pure Line Native Poultry and Dairy Breed (Nublang) breeds in the country and to produce high quality of Indigenous products and sex-sorted heifer for breed improvement.

These all leads towards the national goals to enhance food and nutrition security, promote breed improvement, conserve indigenous breeds in the country, enhance production efficiency and livestock services delivery, conserve pure line native poultry and dairy breed through selective breeding, revive the use of native poultry and dairy as an integral part of Bhutanese farming system and to enable rural people to earn income through natives’ poultry farming.

The opening inauguration was graced by the Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji and attended by Dasho Dzongdag of Lhuentse, Geogs Thrizin, Gups of eight geogs, officials from the Lhuentse Dzongkhag Administration and the public of Jarey, Metsho and Tsenkhar.
