15 October, Thimphu: His Excellency, Mr. Shingo Miyamoto, the Minister for Economic and Development , Embassy of Japan based in India inaugurated the mushroom spawn production equipment at the National Mushroom Centre.
The equipment including sawdust crusher mill, high temperature and pressure cubic steriliser, moisture analyser, hot air oven, electronic balance, deep freezer and refrigerated van were procured from the grant assistance for grassroots human security project (GGP), Embassy of Japan in March-May 2018. They cost around Nu. 6.59 M out of which Nu. 4.67 M were funded by GGP based on the agreement signed between GGP and the Department of Agriculture (DoA) in March 2017. The new set of equipment replaced the 29 years old set which were procured during 1989-1990.
During the opening remarks, Ms. Kinlay Tshering, the Director for DoA promised to ensure quality and meaningful usage of those equipment for the benefit of public.
With the equipment in place, the centre can now ensure continuous support to the regional mushroom units and the private spawn producers with mother cultures and mother spawn. It will also provide support to mushroom growers to produce quality mushroom and improve the livelihood of the people particularly targeting the rural communities in the country.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by the representatives from the JICA office as well as by the agriculture officials.
