27 September, Thimphu: An MoU was signed between the Export Inspection Council of India (EIC) and Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) to recognize the export inspection and certification system of EIC for Bhutan. Hereafter, certificates issued by EIC would recognized as a proof of certification as prescribed by BAFRA. However, random checks will be carried out to ensure continued compliance of products under the MoU.
The MoU covers all food and agricultural products which are imported from India. BAFRA will notify the list of food commodities to be certified by EIC based on the commodity risk analysis and national priority.
The MoU was Signed by Mr. Karma Dorji, Executive Director, BAFRA representing the Royal Government of Bhutan and Shri Dr. S. K Saxena, Director, EIC representing the Government of India.
Hon’ble Secretary, MoAF dignitaries from the Indian Embassy in Bhutan and officials from the various departments and agencies were present during the signing.
