As per the MoU, DoL jointly with DoFPs shall implement the fish fauna research in the main rivers and tributaries of Aie Chu, Nyera Ama Chu and Manas river basin. The research will assess the fish diversity in Bhutan and develop the much needed fishery database in the country for both fisheries development and conservation programs. The National Research Centre for Riverine and Lake Fisheries (NRCR&LF) under the Research and Extension Division of DoL will coordinate the project activities.
This is the second phase of the study and is funded by the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation. It follows the successful implementation of the first phase, which was focused in Amo Chu, Punastang Chu and Wang Chu. A book on the same will also be published shortly. After completing the second phase, a consolidated book report will be published as the first-ever national reference for fishery database in Bhutan.
