23 August, Thimphu: The Annual Performance Agreement (APA) for the fiscal year 2019-2020 of National Organic Flagship Programme was signed between the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Dr. Lotay Tshering and the Hon’ble Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests on August 22, 2019 at the PM Office.
The government has allocated a budget of Nu. 1 billion for organic flagship programme. This programme aims to sustain livelihood system through increased organic production, increase domestic production of bio-inputs, enhance organic value chain and marketing and strengthen policy, institution and regulatory environment for organic programme.
Budget earmarked for implementation of FY 2019-2020 activities is Nu. 189.9 Million. Some of the key deliverables for FY 2019-2020 includes conducting feasibility studies for establishing bio-inputs production plants and marking infrastructures, accreditation of Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) as a third party certification body for carrying out inspection and certification of organic products as per ISO/IEC 17065, employment generation for 100 individuals in the organic sector and establishment of dedicated organic sale outlets. However, the major focus for this year is to enhance the required technical capacity of the stakeholders and to create and put in place an enabling environment.
The Organic Flagship APA was also signed between the Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and Heads of the Departments and Agencies to ensure the achievements of respective activities.
