July 22, Thimphu: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, today received a new Director General for Agriculture Department and offered Trashi Khadhar to Director General of Livestock Department. The Agriculture DG was transferred from the Finance Ministry while Livestock DG was recently promoted.
Mr. Nim Dorji, the former joint Secretary formally took over the charge of the Agriculture Department. He was conferred a welcome dhar by the Hon’ble Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Agriculture and Forests Minister in presence of the Hon’ble Lyonpo Namgay Dorji, Finance Minister and other officials.
Mr. Nim Dorji started his career in the Department of Budget and Accounts, Ministry of Finance as trainee officer in January 1989. Since then, he has worked in various departments in different capacities for the period spanning almost 26 years. He served in Department of National Budget and Aid Co-ordination, Department of Aid and Debt Management, Sustainable Development Secretariat and Department of Public Accounts. In addition, he worked in Poverty Reduction and Economic Management (PREM), South Asia, World Bank, Washington DC, United States of America from September 2003 till August 2004.
The DG brings along huge knowledge and experience on financial dealings which the Ministry stands to benefit a lot from. He has a Masters of Business Administration (Finance) from University of Canberra, Australia.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tashi was appointed as the Livestock Director in November 2013. Prior to that, he served as the Director for CoRRB from 2007-2013. Before then, he was the Chief Livestock Officer till 2003. Among the other various key posts, he served as a Sr. Livestock and Veterinary Officer in the then Department of Agriculture and Livestock Support Services (2000-2003), Officer In-Charge for National Jersey Breeding Centre in Samtse (1997- 2000) and as Officer In-Charge for National Horse and Brown Swiss Cattle Breeding Programme in Bumthang (1993-1997).
Holding a degree in Veterinary Medicine, Surgery and Animal Husbandry from College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Kerela Agriculture University, India; he also has a Masters Degree in Animal Breeding and Production and a PhD in Sustainability of Mixed Farming Systems, both from Wageningen University, Netherlands.
