20 May, 2016, Thimphu: On 19 May 2016, Dasho Tenzin Dhendup, Hon’ble Secretary, MoAF, witnessed the signing of a Letter of Understanding (LoU) between Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA), MoAF and DNV GL Business Assurance International who has their HQ in Milan, Italy. DNV GL is the prominent International Certification Body with the main expertise in Technical Assessment, Advisory and Risk Analysis for quality and safety of products and services over a wide range of disciplines.
The main objective of the signing of LOU is to help strengthen the professional capacity of BAFRA; through knowledge sharing, training, assessments, certifications and developments in its core domains of “Biosecurity and Food Safety” to safeguard the farming system and protect consumers’ health. This Understanding signed would essentially help promote the Bhutanese Food Business Operators for implementation of ISO 22000:2005 – Food Safety Management System (FSMS) to assure the quality and safety of food and agriculture products for enhancing market access and trade facilitation.
The delegation also met Dasho Chencho Norbu, Secretary of National Environment Commission and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs)/Senior Managers of Hotels & Companies based in Phuentsholing, Thimphu and Paro. Later in the evening, the CEO of DNV GL awarded Certificates to nine BAFRA Officials who have successfully completed the ISO 22000:2005 – FSMS Lead Auditor Course (IRCA approved) conducted from May 3 – 7, 2016.
