May 19, Lhuentse: Twenty farmers from seven geogs of Kurtoed, Gangzor, Jaray, Khoma, Menbi, Metsho and Tshenkharla attended a day-long quiz competition on Climate Change (CC). The program was organised to create awareness on its basic information and impacts for better preparedness as climate change today, is regarded as one of the major environmental concerns globally.
The quiz questions were related to soil, forest, water and agriculture among others. During the program, farmers were highlighted on some of the basic issues that could be risky as CC impacts. They were encouraged to maintain sustainable use of land, forest and water resources for a healthy future.
Competing for four rounds, Menbi geog turned out to be the winner followed by Gangzur and Jarey geogs. The winners were awarded with cash prizes and others with participation prizes.
One of the participants, Choki Wangmo from Tangmachhu shared that the program was educative and help her understand the significance of forests and environment and why it needed to be managed sustainably among others.
The Information Communication and Technology Division (erstwhile ICS) under the Ministry and the Lhuentse Dzongkhag Livestock Sector organised the quiz as part of the Climate Change Adaptation Program, an EU funded four year project to enhance resilience of Bhutan’s rural households to the effects of climate change.
