May 2, Gasa: The yak herders attended feed and fodder production training at Laya geog which was organised by the National Centre for Animal Nutrition (NCAN), Bumthang and Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Gasa.
The training provided herders a basic skill on improved pasture development and created awareness on importance of curtailing fodder shortages during lean season. They were also introduced to paddy straw feed blocks and urea molasses mineral mixture blocks feeding through practical demonstration. With the training, participants are expected to establish temperate pasture for hay making in winter and substitute green fodder.
If Layaps are interested to address the feeding problem in winter, the NCAN will supply paddy straw feed blocks at a reasonable price through feed block producing farmers group.
The training was conducted with fund support from BTFEC under the Laya Sephu Project.
