Gasa, June 2: To commemorate the coronation anniversary of our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the Social Forestry Day was celebrated at the Jigme Dorji National Park (JDNP). His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo was among the earliest world leaders to become conscious of the mounting pressures of development on bountiful, yet fragile ecosystem.
The Park jointly with Dzongkhag officials, community forest group members and nature club members of Bjishong Central School celebrated the day at Jigme Dorji Kuenphen Community Forest, Damji with a theme, Forests for Food, Water and Energy.
Partiapants planted 16045 seedlings in 25 hectares under eight community forests under Gasa and Punakha areas. It was for the very first time that the Park has organised such a mass plantation after its functional operation in 1995. The Park also supported those plantation sites with fencing. The program was carried out with fund support from Punatsangchu Hydroelectric Project II.
