12 May, Thimphu His Excellency the Sanam lyonpo inaugurated the Bhutan Cooperative (B-COOP) shop established by Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest located opposite to the Handicrafts Emporium, Norzin Lam with an aim to support the individual farmers, farmer groups and Cooperatives in the country to market their products.
The Director Dorji Dhradhul of DAMC in his welcome speech mentioned that “the B-COOP shop will be currently operated by Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC) for one year and if the scheme proves to be successful and economically viable then it will be operated by Cooperatives or farmer groups themselves.” He also added that the B-COOP shop holds the vision “to contribute to strengthen the marketing of local products through cooperative marketing” thus they aim to integrate the products of high quality from different farmer groups and cooperatives to be displayed and retailed in the B-COOP shop.
During the Inauguration ceremony, B-COOP shop presented and displayed the audience there with selected varieties of products from fresh produce to the canned ones with their retailed prize beside. Thus this establishment of shop will not only befit the farmers and cooperatives to find market and earn income but it will also ensure the consumers with ‘quality standard product’ by providing qualitatively and hygienically packaged and labeled products at the same time ensuring the consumers with local products which are readily available and are of standard quality.
